Surgical Orthodontics

Combined orthodontic and surgical approach for correcting severe jaw discrepancies.

Overview

Surgical Orthodontics

Surgical orthodontics (orthognathic surgery) is necessary for adults with severe jaw discrepancies that cannot be corrected with orthodontic treatment alone. This combined approach addresses both tooth alignment and underlying skeletal issues.

Our orthodontist works closely with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to develop a comprehensive treatment plan. Orthodontic treatment typically precedes surgery to align teeth within each jaw, followed by surgical repositioning of the jaws, and then final orthodontic detailing.

This treatment not only improves dental function and bite but also enhances facial aesthetics and can significantly improve quality of life for patients with severe jaw discrepancies.
